AlpsenTek Unveils ALPIX-Eiger, Industry’s First High-Resolution Hybrid Vision Sensor for Premium Imaging

(28-JULY-2022, Shenzhen, China) AlpsenTek, a leading developer of hybrid vision sensing solutions, today announced the launch of the ALPIX-Eiger(APX003), a high-end fusion vision sensor engineered specifically for premium imaging applications. Leveraging the company’s proprietary Hybrid Vision technology, the chip integrates traditional image sensing and bionic event detection at the pixel level, enabling the simultaneous output of high-quality image frames and event data streams.

The ALPIX-Eiger marks a significant leap in sensory engineering. Utilizing advanced 3D-stacked BSI (Back-Illuminated) process technology, the sensor features a 1.89² μm pixel size and 8 million pixels (8MP). This makes it the industry’s smallest pixel and highest resolution image sensor to feature event-based sensing capabilities, designed specifically for integration into compact intelligent devices such as smartphones and action cameras.

Since 2015, the industrialization of event-based cameras has accelerated; however, legacy solutions often struggled with data scarcity, high costs, and large physical footprints. Previous event sensors required a secondary image sensor to provide visual detail, leading to complex system alignment issues.

“Since the debut of our first-generation ALPIX-Pilatus in 2021, our team has focused on bridging the gap between bionic sensing and commercial demand,” said Jian Deng, founder and CEO of AlpsenTek. ” The ALPIX-Eiger brings our HVS technology to high-resolution sensors for the first time. By breaking industry records for pixel size and resolution, we are providing a transformative solution for the premium imaging market.”

The ALPIX-Eiger retains the full fidelity and detail of a high-end image sensor while introducing microsecond-level response times through patented in-pixel analog-mixed signal processing. Key performance metrics include:

  • High Frame Rate: Equivalent to 4000fps for capturing ultra-fast motion.
  • Dynamic Range: 100dB, ensuring clarity in high-contrast or low-light environments.
  • Color-Coded Event Streams: Unlike traditional monochrome event cameras, the ALPIX-Eiger outputs event data with color information, significantly enhancing image reconstruction for video and photography.

By outputting synchronized image and event data from a single source, the sensor eliminates the need for complex cross-sensor registration, reducing algorithmic difficulty and total system cost. The sensor is optimized for a wide range of applications, including de-blurring, super-resolution, high-speed video, and AR/VR.

To support rapid deployment, AlpsenTek provides comprehensive development kits and algorithmic support to help clients implement customized features in mobile and wearable devices.

Founded in 2019, AlpsenTek sets up R&D centers in Shenzhen, Beijing, Nanjing, and Switzerland. The company’s leadership of HVS technology brings over 16 years of expertise in high-end vision sensors and has secured backing from prominent global investors, including OPPO, Sunny Optical, Lenovo Capital, and ArcSoft.
