AlpsenTek Unveils ALPIX-Eiger, the High-Resolution Hybrid Vision Sensor for Premium Imaging

(Shenzhen, China, 28-JULY-2022) AlpsenTek today announced the launch of the ALPIX-Eiger(APX003), a hybrid vision sensor designed for premium imaging applications. Leveraging the company’s proprietary Hybrid Vision technology, the chip integrates traditional image sensing and bionic event detection at the pixel level, enabling the simultaneous output of high-quality image frames and event data streams.

The ALPIX-Eiger marks a significant leap in sensory engineering. Utilizing advanced 3D-stacked BSI process, the sensor features a 1.89² μm pixel size and 8MP image resolution. This brings a very tiny pixel and high resolution, which is suitable for smooth integration into the intelligent devices such as smartphones and action cameras.

Since 2015, the industrialization of event-based cameras has accelerated. However, legacy solutions often struggled with data scarcity, high costs, and large physical footprints. Previous event sensors usually required a secondary image sensor to provide visual detail, leading to complex system alignment issues.

“Since the debut of our prototype ALPIX-Pilatus(APX001) in 2021, our team has focused on bridging the gap between bionic sensing and commercial demand,” said Jian Deng, founder and CEO of AlpsenTek.

” The ALPIX-Eiger(APX003) brings HVS technology to high-resolution sensors successfully. With the small pixel size and high resolution, we are providing a competitive solution for the premium imaging market.”

The ALPIX-Eiger retains the fidelity and detail of a high-end image sensor while introducing microsecond-level response time through patented in-pixel hybrid signal processing. Its key performance metrics include:

  • High Frame Rate: Equivalent to 4000fps for motion capture.
  • Dynamic Range: 100dB, to get clarity in high-contrast or low-light environments.
  • Color-coded Event Streams: Contrast to monochrome event cameras, ALPIX-Eiger outputs event data with color information, enhancing image reconstruction for video and photography.

By outputting synchronized image and event data from a single source, the need for complex cross-sensor registration is reduced, hence the relating development cost went down. The sensor suits a wide range of applications, including deblurring, super-resolution, high-speed video, and AR/VR headsets.

To support rapid deployment, AlpsenTek provides development kits and technical support to help clients get customized features.

Founded in 2019, AlpsenTek sets up R&D centers in Shenzhen, Zurich, Beijing and Nanjing. The company’s combines years of expertise in vision sensors and system design, and has secured backings from well-known investors, including OPPO, Sunny Optical, Lenovo Capital, and ArcSoft.
